Building estimates are easier to read and to compare when they are organised by phase: groundwork, structure, roofing, finishes. Each phase lists materials and labour, and a contingency line covers the unknowns.

Give the client a validity date and a payment schedule linked to the phases. When the estimate is accepted, convert it into a work order or invoice the first stage.

What to put on a Construction Estimate

  • Scope of work. What is built and where.
  • Phases. Groundwork, structure, roof, finishes.
  • Materials and labour. Per phase, with quantities.
  • Contingency. A percentage for unforeseen work.
  • Payment schedule and validity. Stages of payment and how long the price holds.

Questions about the Estimate Generator

Should I include a contingency?

Yes, usually 5 to 10% on renovation work, shown on its own line so the client sees it.

Can the client accept the estimate online?

Download the PDF and send it; the client signs the “Accepted by client” box and returns it.

Can I bill in stages from the estimate?

Yes. Convert the estimate into an invoice and adjust the quantities to the stage being billed.
