What is a Packing Slip?
A packing slip travels inside a shipment and lists the items and quantities packed. The recipient uses it to check the delivery; it usually shows no prices.

What to include on a packing slip
- Order number and date. So the customer and your warehouse can match the parcel to the order.
- Ship-to address. The delivery address and recipient.
- Items with SKU. Product code and description for each line.
- Quantity ordered and shipped. Shows partial shipments and backorders clearly.
- Shipping method and tracking number. For follow-up if the parcel is delayed.
How to make a packing slip
- Enter your business name, address and logo in "Your business". Save them as your default and they will be filled in next time.
- Add the other party's details and the document number and dates. Numbers increase automatically.
- List the items. Quantities, prices, taxes and totals update in the preview as you type.
- Pick a template, colour and document language, then click "Download PDF" or "Print".
Packing slip mistakes to avoid
- Showing prices on gift orders: a packing slip should normally list items only.
- Not marking backordered items, which leads to “missing item” complaints.

A packing slip lists what is in the box, without prices. An invoice requests payment and shows prices and taxes.
Should a packing slip go inside or outside the box?
Inside is standard. For international shipments, customs documents go in a pouch on the outside.

Yes. Open the sales order, use “Convert to” and choose Packing Slip.
