What is a Receipt?
A receipt confirms that payment has been received. It shows what was paid for, the amount, the date and the payment method, and gives the customer proof of purchase.

What to include on a receipt
- Receipt number and date. A unique number for your records and the date the money was received.
- Your business details. Name, address and tax number if you are registered.
- What was paid for. Items or services with amounts.
- Amount received and payment method. Cash, card, bank transfer, cheque or mobile payment.
- Invoice reference. If the payment settles an invoice, quote its number.
- Signature or stamp. Optional, but useful for cash payments.
How to make a receipt online
- Enter your business name, address and logo in "Your business". Save them as your default and they will be filled in next time.
- Add the other party's details and the document number and dates. Numbers increase automatically.
- List the items. Quantities, prices, taxes and totals update in the preview as you type.
- Pick a template, colour and document language, then click "Download PDF" or "Print".

What makes a receipt valid?
A valid receipt shows who received the money, from whom, how much, for what, how it was paid and when. Tax rules in your country may add requirements.
Can I make a receipt for a cash payment?
Yes. Choose “Cash” as the payment method and download or print the receipt for your customer.
Is a handwritten receipt valid?
Usually yes, as long as it contains the essential details. A printed receipt is easier to read and to archive.
