What is a Sales Order?

A sales order is issued by the seller to confirm a customer's order. It records the items, quantities, prices and delivery terms before the goods are shipped and invoiced.

What to include on a sales order

What is the difference between a sales order and a purchase order?

The buyer issues a purchase order to request goods. The seller issues a sales order to confirm it. They describe the same deal from each side.

Is a sales order an invoice?

No. It confirms the order. The invoice is issued when the goods are delivered or according to the agreed terms.

What happens after a sales order?

You prepare the goods, send them with a packing slip or delivery note, then issue the invoice. Each step can be created from the sales order with “Convert to”.
